Sudan's South Kordofan region has seen attacks on three health facilities in the past week alone, leaving more than 30 people dead, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) on February 8, 2026. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that Sudan's health system is under severe assault, particularly in the central Kordofan region where fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has recently intensified. Tedros detailed three specific incidents: on February 3, an attack on a primary health center killed eight people, including five children; on February 4, a hospital strike killed one person; and on February 5, an attack on another hospital killed 22 people, including four health workers. The RSF has been frequently accused by international bodies of targeting medical infrastructure. The WHO head urged the international community to support peace initiatives to end the violence and allow for the rebuilding of the collapsed health system in the conflict-torn nation.
