Sudan defense minister rejects claims aid convoy carried weapons in North Kordofan strike - Serwe News
Sudanese Defense Minister Gen. Hassan Kabroun has dismissed allegations that a humanitarian aid convoy struck by drones in North Kordofan was transporting weapons, calling the claims a fabrication to justify militia attacks on aid.
KHARTOUM — Sudan's Defense Minister, General Hassan Kabroun, formally rejected reports on Friday that a humanitarian aid convoy recently targeted in North Kordofan was being used to transport high-quality weapons and ammunition to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The minister stated that the claims, which had been circulating in media reports following an attack in the Al-Rahad area, were designed to divert international attention from the Rapid Support Forces' (RSF) ongoing targeting of humanitarian missions. Kabroun emphasized that the region is under the full control of the national army and does not require the use of 'aid decoys' for military logistics. The incident involved the destruction of World Food Programme (WFP) assets by RSF-attributed drone strikes, which the paramilitary group claimed were carrying military supplies. This dispute highlights the extreme tension in Kordofan, a strategic region connecting central Sudan with Darfur, where fighting has escalated significantly in early February 2026.
