Mogadishu — Somali National Security Forces, continuing their high-tempo operations against Al-Shabaab militants, have successfully carried out a planned military operation in the Daynunay area near Baidoa in the Bay region. During the operation, federal forces dismantled several illegal roadblocks that had been established by the militants to disrupt civilian movement and extort local transport. The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the engagement resulted in the deaths of more than 20 Al-Shabaab members and the complete destruction of insurgent infrastructure in the vicinity. The operation comes amid a broader push by the Federal Government of Somalia to secure vital supply corridors leading to the South West State’s administrative capital. However, the military success has been shadowed by political friction, as the federal government issued a statement alleging that certain regional leaders in the South West State maintain clandestine links with the militant group to undermine national security efforts.
