MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Somali National Army (SNA) reported on February 25, 2026, that more than 23 members of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Al-Shabaab were killed during high-intensity operations in central and southeastern Somalia. The mission, carried out in coordination with international partners, focused on the Moqokori area in the Hiran region and the Hawadley area of Middle Shabelle. Military sources stated that the operations successfully dismantled several militant camps used as staging grounds for attacks on government officials and civilian infrastructure. In Hawadley, SNA forces conducted house-to-house searches to clear the area of hidden elements and reinforced security on main transport routes to ensure the safety of transit. These developments are part of a broader, intensified campaign launched by the Federal Government of Somalia to degrade the group's operational capabilities across rural districts.
