In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a coordinated drone assault on El Obeid, the strategic capital of North Kordofan, on Friday morning. Local witnesses and military sources reported that nearly 20 drones targeted key government infrastructure, including the Legislative Council headquarters, a police facility, and a telecommunications hub. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) anti-aircraft units engaged the drones for over 90 minutes, successfully intercepting several of the aerial targets. El Obeid serves as a vital operational hub for the military's 5th Infantry Division and remains a primary target for the RSF, which has maintained positions around the city since the start of the war. While no official casualty count has been released, the unusual daylight timing of the attack has heightened fears among the civilian population who have been living under a partial siege for months.
