Between February 3 and February 9, 2026, Ethiopian federal forces, including the 11th Command and the Republican Guard, launched a major offensive in the Wogedi District of the South Wollo Zone. Reports from the Amhara Association of America (AAA) indicate that the military utilized drones, heavy artillery, and BM rocket launchers to target multiple kebeles. This operation resulted in the extrajudicial killing of more than 100 civilians and the total destruction of at least 40 homes. The AFNM characterized the offensive as a systematic massacre following months of socio-economic strangulation via road blockades. Concurrent with the violence, the government has imposed telecommunications blackouts across 24 woredas in five zonal administrations, including North Wollo and West Gojjam, severely limiting the documentation of human rights violations.
