Asmara, February 28, 2026 — The Ministry of Land, Water and Environment, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, launched a specialized training program for 25 experts in Asmara today. The program focuses on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing, involving trainees from the Ministries of Finance and National Development, Mining and Energy, Marine Resources, and Agriculture, as well as the National Statistics Office. Delivered by international experts, the training covers cartographic design, the compilation of environmental data, and digitalization strategies. Minister Tesfai Gebreselasie stated that the training will provide a significant contribution to the coordination of geographic information and evidence-based decision-making processes. This initiative is part of Eritrea's 2026 strategic plan to enhance national capabilities in urban planning and resource management through modern spatial technologies.
